Product Development and Design Engineer II
Job Description:
The Product Development & Design Engineer II’s primary role is to assist with development projects by utilizing engineering knowledge, skills, and related experience to provide the company an efficient means of transferring ideas into reality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design:
- Conceptualizes product designs and analyzes/selects materials and processes for assigned products.
- Performs engineering calculations and coordinates Finite Element Analysis when appropriate for assigned products.
- Performs component and machine cost analysis for assigned products.
- Researches and understands the applicable industry and government standards (CE, UL, etc.) for assigned products.
- Creates models and drawings in the appropriate CAD software for assigned products.
- Utilizes developed project management, Finite Element Analysis, hydraulics, and electrical skills to work through assigned projects.
- Researches and understands the basic requirements of appropriate manufacturing standards for components, subassemblies, and machines.
- Supports the creation of machine documentation (manuals, labels, literature).
- Produces and reviews drawings, performs bolted joint design, tolerance stack-up, geometric tolerancing, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and hazard analysis.
- Creates and presents monthly project updates for executive team.
- Compiles information for writing Engineering Change Notices, creates and maintains Bill of Materials for assigned products.
- Provides production support to address production design and manufacturing issues through quality notifications and deviations.
- Works with Product Support and Quality Assurance to improve machine warranty rates and resolve customer issues.
- Is the engineering contact for a specific machine or line that is manufacturing the product.
- In collaboration with Research & Development, creates test plans to evaluate the product to ensure specifications are met.
- Evaluates results and determines/coordinates appropriate engineering action to address any product issues.
- Effectively communicates on a technical and non-technical level with members of other departments, suppliers and outside design houses and consultants to achieve project objectives and address any manufacturing issues.
- May speak at various technical forums to provide product knowledge and product application information.
- Works with cross functional departments and suppliers to ensure assigned duties within projects meet the time line, project cost, performance, quality, and safety requirements.
- May serve as the technical leader for small to mid sized projects.
- Performs all job functions is a safe manner and maintains safety awareness.
- Reports known accidents, injuries and unsafe practices and/or conditions to supervisor.
Required Skills:
Qualifications: Additional years of experience or education may be substituted for each other as determined by Human Resources.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of Product Development & Design Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required. Design and development experience in Construction and/or Industrial Equipment preferred.
- Proven ability to work with global engineering staff.
- Proficient skills in 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design. Experience with NX preferred, including the use of top-down design methodology.
- Interpersonal skills to work with all levels of the organization to effectively communication technical ideas.
- Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- If less than 5 years of work experience after college, We will require a copy of Transcripts indicating a minimum GPA of 3.0 (cumulative or within your major) is preferred.
Physical Demands and/or Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to use a keyboard, calculator, and telephone. Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and occasionally stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift (20 lbs.), and an ability to adjust vision for close vision work. May involve the use of hand and power tools. Requires occasional exposure to running machines and their subsystems including engines, drive trains, burners, electric circuits, and hydraulics. May involve occasional exposure to hot or cool, wet and sometimes dusty and loud conditions. May require the use of a dust mask, hearing, foot, and eye protection and other personal protective equipment.
